Hilltop villages

The driver’s guide

The eagle's nest of the Riviera: a medieval village clinging 400 metres above the sea, two MICHELIN stars inside its walls, a cactus garden built on the ruins of the castle, and the path Nietzsche walked down to reach the water. The addresses I give my own passengers, each with its phone number, its website and directions.

Nothing here was picked from online ratings. Four MICHELIN stars in the 2026 guide in a commune of two thousand people — two of them inside the village walls — plus two simpler tables from the same houses, also held in the guide.

In the hilltop village

All inside the walls, all at the end of a stepped lane. You do not park at them: you climb up on foot from the village car park.

Two Michelin stars
La Chèvre d'Or
Rue du Barri, Èze-Village
TWO MICHELIN STARS, the most famous table in the village, hung on the cliff with the whole Mediterranean below. Since 2024 the kitchens have been led by Tom Meyer, Meilleur Ouvrier de France. The house is a Relais & Châteaux set in the medieval buildings of the Rue du Barri.

Michelin star
Château Eza
Rue de la Pise, Èze-Village
ONE MICHELIN STAR in the 2026 guide and three Gault&Millau toques, under Justin Schmitt, starred since March 2023. Picture windows and terraces jutting out over the void — it is the most spectacular view in the village. Fifty covers only. Lunch menu from €70, tasting menus in the evening from €140. ⚠️ Open from 2 February to 15 November 2026.

Les Remparts
Rue du Barri, Èze-Village
The bistronomic table of La Chèvre d'Or, held in the MICHELIN guide's selection and run by the same chef, Tom Meyer. More direct cooking, a more reasonable bill, and the same view. This is the answer to « I want to eat at the Chèvre d'Or, but not a three-figure menu ».

Le Café du Jardin – La Chèvre d'Or
Rue du Barri, Èze-Village
The open-air terrace of the same house, the simplest of the three: salads, dishes of the day, a drink in the shade after the climb. Usually no booking needed, and the only place in the village where you can sit down without committing your day.
OUTDOOR TERRACENO FUSSINSIDE THE WALLS

Down below, at Èze-Bord-de-Mer

Six kilometres and 400 metres of descent below the village, on the Basse Corniche.

Michelin star
La Table du Cap Estel
1312 avenue Raymond-Poincaré, Èze-Bord-de-Mer
ONE MICHELIN STAR, on a private peninsula at the water's edge. Kévin Garcia has been executive chef since 18 April 2025; he had earned a second star at Le Jules Verne, at the top of the Eiffel Tower. The house also has a simpler table, Le Ficus. ⚠️ This is DOWN BELOW, not in the village.

🚕 I'll drive you there — and I'll come back for you when the meal is over. The village is pedestrian and there is only one car park, right at the bottom of the ramparts: the starred tables are a five-minute climb on foot, never a step from the car door.
