Hilltop villages

Biot

The driver’s guide

The village of bubbled glass, twenty minutes from the airport: an arcaded square that was once the seat of the Knights Templar, two gates from 1560, a MICHELIN star in a 16th-century pottery, and the Fernand Léger national museum at the foot of the hill. The addresses I give my own passengers, each with its phone number, its website and directions.

Restaurants

Nothing here was picked from online ratings. One MICHELIN star in the 2026 guide, and one village institution that fed Picasso and Chagall — it is not a long list, but it is a true one, and the rest is not worth promising to a passenger.

In the old village

Both are in the village, five minutes' walk apart. Both need booking.

Michelin star
Les Terraillers
11 chemin Neuf, Biot
ONE MICHELIN STAR in the 2026 guide, under Michaël Fulci, now sole owner of the house. The restaurant occupies a 16th-century pottery at the entrance to the village — a « terrailler », in Provençal, is a potter. Stone vaults, a flowered terrace. ⚠️ CLOSED MONDAY, TUESDAY AND SUNDAY EVENING; service from noon to 2pm and 7pm to 10pm, Wednesday to Saturday.

An institution
L'hôtel-restaurant Les Arcades
16 place des Arcades, Biot
The institution of the Place des Arcades, in a 15th-century building. André Brothier turned it into a hotel-restaurant that fed the painters of the area — PICASSO and CHAGALL ate here — and the house has kept its private art collection, hung in the dining rooms. Provençal cooking, tables under the arcades, and a setting nobody has had the idea of modernising.

🚕 I'll drive you there — and I'll come back for you when the meal is over. The old village is pedestrian and its two car parks are full by 11am in summer.
