Grasse

The driver’s guide

The perfume capital of the world, 350 metres above the sea: three perfume houses that open their doors for free, the largest perfume museum on earth, three Rubens in the cathedral, and an old town that smells of jasmine in August. The addresses I give my own passengers, each with its phone number, its website and directions.

Restaurants

Nothing here was picked from online ratings. One MICHELIN-starred table and two more held in the guide's selection. ⚠️ The speciality of Grasse is called LE FASSUM — a stuffed cabbage the town has handed down for generations. The restaurant that bore that name, out on the Route de Plascassier, changed hands and name in 2018: today it is called Lougolin.

In the Grasse countryside

All three are outside the historic centre, among the olive trees and the flower fields. All of them need booking.

In the Grasse countryside
La Bastide Saint-Antoine
48 avenue Henri Dunant, Grasse
The house of JACQUES CHIBOIS, one of the masters of the cuisine du soleil: an 18th-century bastide in a park of century-old olive trees, above the town. A MICHELIN-STARRED table, a member of Relais & Châteaux and of Les Grandes Tables du Monde. You eat the estate's own olive oil and the flowers of the fields next door.

Lougolin
381 route de Plascassier, Grasse
⚠️ This is the address many guides still list as « Lou Fassum »: Emmanuel Ruz left for Brazil and XAVIER MALANDRAN reopened the house as Lougolin in April 2018, after seven months of work. A bistrot held in the MICHELIN guide's selection, cooking with the seasons and with local growers, and a panoramic terrace that looks at the sunset over the Esterel and the bay of Théoule.

Au Fil du Temps
83 avenue Auguste Renoir, Magagnosc, Grasse
At Magagnosc, a hamlet of Grasse on the Nice road: modern cooking with southern Italian leanings, tasting menus, an intimate dining room. Held in the MICHELIN guide's selection and rated by Gault&Millau. A small house — book ahead.

🚕 I'll drive you there — and I'll come back for you when the meal is over. The two best tables in Grasse are outside the centre, in the countryside, at the end of narrow roads: nobody walks there.
