French Riviera

Villefranche-sur-Mer, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat et Beaulieu-sur-Mer

The driver’s guide

Three villages side by side between Nice and Monaco: the bay of Villefranche and its chapel painted by Cocteau, the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and the coastal paths of Cap-Ferrat, the Greek villa Kérylos and the harbour of Beaulieu. The addresses I give my own passengers, each with its phone number, its website and directions.

Restaurants

Nothing here was picked from online ratings. Two MICHELIN stars within three kilometres of each other, several tables held in the guide's selection, and two institutions people ask for by name. The entries are sorted village by village.

In Villefranche-sur-Mer

The harbour quay, facing the boats. That is where everything happens.

La Mère Germaine
7 quai de l'Amiral Courbet, Villefranche-sur-Mer
The institution of the quay, opened in 1938 by Germaine Halap and Louis Brau and run by the same family ever since. Fish and shellfish. Germaine was known as « the mother of the Sixth Fleet » — the American sailors anchored in the bay devoted a book to her in 1959. Jean Cocteau used to lunch here. Held in the MICHELIN Guide selection.

In Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat

The tables of the Cap belong to its two great hotels. You need to book, and you need to be driven there.

Le Cap
71 boulevard du Général de Gaulle, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
The restaurant of the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, one MICHELIN star in the 2026 guide, under Yoric Tièche. Mediterranean cooking inside one of the most private palace hotels on the coast. The terrace looks out over the whole peninsula.

In Beaulieu-sur-Mer

One star inside a palace hotel, one guide-listed table in town, and the institution of the harbour.

Michelin star
Le Restaurant des Rois
5 boulevard du Maréchal Leclerc, Beaulieu-sur-Mer
The restaurant of La Réserve de Beaulieu, one MICHELIN star in the 2026 guide. Grand French cooking in a palace hotel set on the sea, with one of the finest dining rooms on the coast.

In Beaulieu-sur-Mer
La Table de Julien
Beaulieu-sur-Mer
A village table held in the MICHELIN Guide selection, a step away from the harbour. This is the address to remember when you want to eat well in Beaulieu without going through a palace hotel.

African Queen
port de plaisance, Beaulieu-sur-Mer
Born in 1969 on the harbour of Beaulieu, facing the yachts: the institution of the bay, the one regulars name themselves. Taken over in 2023 by Riccardo Giraudi, Philippe Schriqui and Patrick Gioannini, without changing its spirit. Generous Mediterranean cooking. Open every day from noon to 11pm, cocktail bar from 5pm to 1am.
SINCE 1969ON THE HARBOUROPEN EVERY DAY

🚕 I'll drive you there — and I'll come back for you when the meal is over. The great tables are inside the hotels of Cap-Ferrat and Beaulieu: you do not walk to them, and you do not park there.
