French Riviera

Théoule-sur-Mer

The driver’s guide

Six kilometres of red rock between Mandelieu and Le Trayas, at the foot of the Esterel massif: the Riviera's first panoramic road, an underwater trail open to everyone in summer, eight public beaches tucked into coves, and two MICHELIN stars in a village of fourteen hundred people. The addresses I give my own passengers, each with its phone number, its website and directions.

Restaurants

Théoule has around fourteen hundred inhabitants and TWO MICHELIN STARS — which is rare at that scale. Both are inside hotels, up on the corniche, and both need booking ahead. A third house, on the road to Le Trayas, is in the guide's selection. The other addresses in the village hold no distinction, so I don't promise them.

The two stars

Neither is within walking distance of the harbour. Booking is essential for both.

Michelin star
Mareluna
Château de Théoule, 55 avenue de Lérins, Théoule-sur-Mer
ONE MICHELIN STAR, won in 2025 and kept in 2026. The chef, FRANCESCO FEZZA, is Italian and trained at Le Meurice under Alain Ducasse, then with Ryuji Teshima at Pages in Paris: Italian discipline, Japanese precision, house fermentations and aged fish. There is no à la carte menu but THREE TASTING MENUS of six to eight courses, one of them entirely vegetarian. The dining room and terrace look out over the bay of Cannes, Cap d'Antibes and the Lérins islands.

The fisherman's house

On the Corniche d'Or, heading towards Le Trayas.

The fisherman's house
La Maréa
16 avenue du Trayas, Théoule-sur-Mer
IN THE MICHELIN GUIDE SELECTION. The house was founded in the 1950s by a village fisherman; it is now run by JÉRÔME CERVERA, a former fishmonger — which shows on the plate: fish landed that day, red mullet barely seared, fruity olive oil and seasonal vegetables. CLOSED MONDAYS. Dinner Tuesday to Saturday, lunch AND dinner on Sunday.

🚕 I'll drive you there — and I'll come back for you when the meal is over. Both starred tables are up on the corniche, kilometres from the harbour: nobody walks there, and nobody drives home from a wine-paired tasting menu.
