Menton

The driver’s guide

The addresses I give my own passengers in Menton: Mauro Colagreco's three-star table, the gardens the town is famous for, an old town that looks more Italian than French, the beaches at Les Sablettes and the evenings out. Each one with its phone number, its website and directions.

Restaurants

Nothing here was picked from online ratings. Three families only: the 2026 MICHELIN Guide distinctions, the addresses of Mauro Colagreco — the chef who turned Menton into a town people travel to for the food — and the local taste, built around the Menton lemon and the savoury specialities you buy and carry off.

The three-star table

Menton has only one starred restaurant — but it holds the guide's highest distinction.

Three Michelin stars
Mirazur
30 avenue Aristide Briand, Menton
Mauro Colagreco's restaurant, clinging to the hillside above the sea in Garavan, a few hundred metres from the Italian border. The menus follow the lunar calendar and whatever the restaurant's own gardens are giving: flowers, fruit, leaves, roots. Twenty years of it in 2026. Bookings open months in advance — December 2026 was released on 3 August at nine in the morning.

The 2026 MICHELIN Guide's good-value table

The Bib Gourmand rewards good cooking at a fair price. This is the first one ever awarded in Menton.

Bib Gourmand
L'Orangerie
3 rue de la Marne, Menton
A modest shopfront in the middle of town, and behind it a Japanese chef who trained under Bruno Cirino at the Hostellerie Jérôme, laying Japanese touches over local produce. The first Bib Gourmand ever given in Menton, in the 2026 guide — the eleventh in the department. Full set menu at €39.

Mauro Colagreco's other addresses

Together with Mirazur they form the chef's Menton quartet: three far simpler places you can walk into without having booked months ahead.

Mauro Colagreco's other addresses
Casa Fuego
80 bis boulevard de Garavan, Menton
The chef's Argentinian grill, in a hacienda-style building up in Garavan. A big covered terrace looking down over the sea, the town and the harbour. Everything cooked over wood.
ARGENTINIAN GRILLSEA-VIEW TERRACE
Mauro Colagreco's other addresses
La Pecora Negra
quai Gordon Bennett, Menton
The chef's pizzeria, opened in 2019 down on the quay at the water's edge. Modern Neapolitan pizza, sourdough base, and toppings that come mostly from the Mirazur gardens or from small growers within a hundred kilometres. The address to remember when Mirazur is full — which is always.

Mitron Bakery
8 rue Piéta, Menton — 8 Rue Piéta
The bakery of the quartet, in the old town, still baking in a wood-fired oven built in 1906. Naturally leavened bread, heritage grains milled locally, and pastries built around the local citrus. It traded for years as « Au Baiser du Mitron »: same house, same oven, same phone number.

The taste of Menton, to take away

The Menton lemon carries a protected geographical indication. These are the houses where you actually find it, plus the savoury counters around the covered market.

Maison Herbin
2 rue du Vieux Collège, Menton
An artisan jam maker in the old town, open since 1975. Fruit picked over one piece at a time, cooked in copper pans, jams and citrus marmalades. You can see the workshop: guided visits on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10am.

The savoury counter inside the market hall: socca, barbajuans, pichade — the olive-oil dough topped with tomato, slow-cooked onion, anchovy and olives — pissaladière and pies depending on the day.

🚕 I'll drive you there — and I'll come back for you when the meal is over. Mirazur sits high up in Garavan: it is not an address where you park.
