The mountain resort closest to the French Riviera: 90 kilometres of pistes between 1,500 and 2,066 metres, an hour and a half from the sea. The first village resort in the Southern Alps to earn the Flocon Vert label, and a Famille Plus resort. Open 365 days a year, with a summer toboggan run and a golf course at 1,700 metres. The addresses I give my own passengers, each with its phone number, its website and directions.
⚠️ SAID PLAINLY: Valberg has no distinguished table — no MICHELIN star, no Bib Gourmand, no label. What you eat here is the mountain cooking of the back country: chard tart, ravioli, ewe's-milk cheese, game in season. Here are three addresses, given for what they are.
Two in Valberg, one in the village of Beuil, six kilometres away. All need booking in season.
🚕 I'll drive you there — and I'll come back for you when the meal is over. Eighty-five kilometres of mountain road up and the same back: exactly the trip you do not want to drive yourself after a meal.
+33 6 58 27 93 12Valberg and Beuil-Les Launes form a single ski area: 90 kilometres of pistes between 1,500 and 2,066 metres — 12 green, 10 blue, 28 red and 6 black. It is the closest ski area to the Riviera, and the resort carries the FAMILLE PLUS label.
The two sides are linked by the lifts: one pass, two villages.
🚕 I'll drive you there. Skis, boots and children in the boot, and no chains to fit at the roadside: I go up to Valberg all winter, by arrangement.
+33 6 58 27 93 12This is the argument my passengers forget: Valberg is ten degrees cooler than Nice, and it is an hour and a half away. The resort is OPEN 365 DAYS A YEAR, with a rail toboggan run, a golf course and lifts open to mountain bikes.
All three are in the resort or on its edge, minutes from one another.
🚕 I'll drive you there. It is ten degrees cooler than Nice in August, and it is an hour and a half away: the outing my passengers rediscover every summer.
+33 6 58 27 93 12What surrounds the resort is worth the trip as much as the resort itself: the road up runs through gorges of red schist, and two mountain villages frame Valberg.
The RD28 climbs the gorges from Touët-sur-Var to Beuil. ⚠️ This road has already been closed for months at a time by rockfall: check before setting off.
Beuil is six kilometres from the resort, Péone eight. Both are real villages, lived in all year.
🚕 I'll drive you there. The Cians gorges are on the way up or the way down, with no detour: the finest road in the department, and it is already on your route.
